TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2016 /CNW/ – Denton “Dangerous” Daley bested challenger Sylvera Louis, winning the vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Cruiserweight Title and solidifying his position as one of the best Cruiserweight boxers in the world.
In a 10th round knockout, Daley beat Sylvera “Sly” Louis, a Montreal slugger who beat his last opponent, Milos Pantelic, earlier this year.
“Success isn’t given – it’s earned. Tonight, I’m honoured to have been able to bring the British Commonwealth Cruiserweight Title back to Canada” said Denton. “I’m thankful for my team’s commitment and guidance in preparation for this fight and the constant support of my family, friends, and fans.”
To prepare for the fight, Denton was coached and trained by Canadian 1992 Olympic bronze medallist Chris Johnson, supported by Keith Vanderpool and local strongman Craig Bongelli. The event, organized by Global Legacy Boxing and former undisputed heavyweight champion and Canadian gold medalist boxer at the 1988 Olympics, Lennox Louis, unfolded to a sold out crowd at the Masonic Temple in Toronto, Ontario. This was Daley’s second fight with the Global Legacy Boxing organization.
Daley is ranked first in Canada and eighth in the world for his weight class by the World Boxing Association. Riding a three-fight winning streak leading into this fight, the former WBA-NABA Cruiserweight Champion and Toronto, Ontario native, originally form Regent Park now holds a record of 16 wins, 1 loss.
Prior to beginning boxing in his mid-20’s and turning pro at 28, the 6’1″ Daley was a star on the court before he was one in the ring, for the powerhouse varsity basketball team at Sheridan College, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.
Tomorrow, the 34-year old will find himself in a new ring – a wedding ring. Denton looks forward to continuing his winning streak by marrying Mona Sandhu in a ceremony to be held in Mississauga, Ontario.
“Being a great boxer has always been one of the greatest pursuits, but tomorrow I’m excited to fulfill the greatest pursuit of my life – marrying my fiancé,” said Denton.
