Ringmasters: The Great American Bash 1985 Retrospective
Rassslin’ and Rantin’ continues the Retrospective series with a look back at Ringmasters: The Great American Bash 1985.
As the first Great American Bash, the 1985 edition came from Charlotte, NC in an outdoor stadium to a crowd of 27,000+, featuring two main event matches. The first, the NWA World Heavyweight Championship defended by Ric Flair in his Freedom Challenge against the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff with David Crockett as the guest referee. The second, a steel cage showdown for the NWA Television Championship as Tully Blanchard defended against “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. If Rhodes won, not only would he gain the TV title but the “services” of Baby Doll for 30 days.
A number of undercard matches also highlighted the event with The Road Warriors (AWA Tag Team Champions) facing the Russians (NWA Tag Team Champions), a six man tag match, a dog collar match between “The Boogie Woogie Man” Jimmy Valiant and “#1” Paul Jones, and Magnum TA vs. Kamala.
