The Shield have undoubtedly been one of the hottest acts in the industry since their debut in late 2012, as Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns have become household names and have worked nearly every top guy in the company.

Questions have arisen for months as a result of WWE’s opinion of Roman Reigns as a future singles megastar as to how long he would remain as a Shield member. Speculation had Reigns turning babyface, whether on his own or as a result of a disagreement with Rollins and Ambrose, in time for Wrestlemania 30 or at the show itself but that was not the case.

The new direction of the Shield working a program with a reformed Evolution, minus Ric Flair, may have some legs, but what we know for sure is that it has at least one pay-per-view (PPV) match in it upcoming at Extreme Rules.

This weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Roman Reigns worked solo against Randy Orton while Ambrose and Rollins wrestled RybAxel in tag action. It’s possible that has much more to do with Batista and Triple H remaining in the States and appearing on SmackDown than anything else, but it’s worth noting because it’s a high-profile singles opponent for Reigns.

Per a report from the Wrestling Observer, Reigns pinned Orton clean with the spear to win the match.
