Just days after getting a gig with Bellator MMA, Showtime recently confirmed the former Smackdown Live announcer’s wish has come true, as he will serve as the play-by-play man for Aug. 26’s superfight between undefeated boxing champ Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight titleholder Conor McGregor.

Moments after the historic boxing match was announced, Ranallo Tweeted his hope that, since it was going to be distributed by Showtime PPV and he’s their usual boxing voice, he would get to call the combat sports spectacle in Las Vegas. The network confirmed that to Sporting News earlier today when the revealed they’ll be using their regular boxing team for the event dubbed “The Money Fight”.

Mauro also called Mayweather’s last huge payday, a showdown with Manny Paquiao in 2015.

WWE will likely try to connect themselves to what will surely be a big topic in the sports discussion all Summer long, but it’s unlikely they’ll choose to do so by mentioning Ranallo, who left the company amicably but under a cloud of controversy related to reports his treatment by fellow announcer John Layfield contributed to a re-occurrence of his mental health issues.

Regardless, congrats to Mauro on the big news for the big fight!
