Column: Koco’s Corner #4 – (My Fave 5 WWE Raw Moments)

Every week I will attempt to write a Fave 5 type column out of my love for Booker T. Since everyone is buzzing about Raw’s 1,000th episode, I figure the first one could be about my five favorite moments of WWE Raw.

Booker T's Fave 5

I have a confession, I never really liked the WWF, I grew up as a NWA fan until I learned what ECW was. I never really liked WWF/E until they were the only game in town and even now I would rather watch Lucha, Indies or Puroresu. I watched the fed only when nothing else was on. But with that said I still had my favorite moments of what has become the cornerstone of pro wrestling, Monday Night Raw.

Shane McMahon announces the purchase of WCW

Shane McMahon announces the purchase of WCW

I was sad when WCW came to an end but I had to watch the last Nitro. Vince was being well… Vince and I was shocked by the finish and looking forward to what happens next. Shane was always my favorite McMahon (Gotta collect them all) but this made me pop big time.

After the last Nitro went off the air I thought to myself this is going to be the greatest time in wrestling history. I was wrong.

Mick Foley captures the WWE Championship

Mick Foley captures the WWE Championship

Mick Foley and WWE always like to tell the story about how many people switch over after the spoilers were given on Nitro to watch Mrs. Foley’s baby boy win the championship. I was one of them that made the switch because I loved what Foley did in Japan and it opened my eyes to how WWE could compete with the WCW.

DX invades WCW

DX invades WCW

Whether it was for an Indy fed, E-fed (fan fiction) or just me as a kid pretending to run shows (KWF) using wrestling figures (NOT DOLLS!) I always dreamed of pulling something like this off. DX got to be this awesome in real life on the highest level.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Mike Tyson have an in-ring face-off

During this time period my WWF friends were begging me to give their company a chance and I always answered them with that is kids stuff I will stick with my WCW & ECW, thank you very much.

As a fan I was a bit of a jerk to WWF and didn’t give them a fair shake. That was until I heard Mike Tyson was on, I dropped everything to see him. Growing up in New Jersey Tyson was a god. This was the first can’t miss moment in Raw history for me.

Stephanie McMahon

ECW joins the Invasion on WWF Raw

At this point I was very dissatisfied with how they dropped the ball on the invasion angle. I was hoping for WCW to be its own show or at least have some of the bigger names in the angle.

So when the WCW guys ran in, I was all like… yawn. Then the WWE guys ran in to protect their own people, I was bitching in my head how predictable. But once second before they all turned, I was like wait a second they are all ECW guys.

When they all turned I scream “Oh my Gawd.” My wife was sleeping next to me and woke up with “What the hell is wrong with you?” I couldn’t explain it to her I was too busy chanting ECW!!!!

My wife went back to sleep regretting marrying a man-child. I called Gerry (The editor who over steps his boundaries) and screamed did you just see that.

For one night Raw made magic and made me a fan like when I was a kid all over again. I regret to tell you this but it did not follow up on that magic after that night. But for one night… Raw was perfect in my eyes.
